Saturday, April 28, 10:00-12:00 noon - The Art of Creative Aging, Tompkins County Library, 101 East Green Street, Ithaca, NY.
Creative community members Barbara Thuesen, Natasha Tall, Wally Woods, Judith Pratt, Debaura Dahl and others will explore what Abraham Maslow described as the ultimate stage of human development: the age of creativity and wisdom.
The National Center for Creative Aging, whose founder/director Susan Perlstein visited Ithaca in 2003, combines advocacy with research on the effects of arts engagement on elders. But it also highlights retirement as an opportunity to create a life of vitality, self-expression and contribution, whether the call is to dance, paint, grow a garden or nurture a grandchild.
FREE and open to ALL!
For information contact 607-339-9472.

Lifelong, 119 W. Court Street, Ithaca, NY

This workshop offers an opportunity to view the world through "haiku eyes" - capturing individual moments of observation and perception and transforming them into short poems.
After reading examples of haiku by both classical and contemporary poets, participants will be guided toward the creation of their own poems.
To register, contact Irene Zahava directly: 273-4675; zee@twcny.rr.com.
Enrollment is limited; early registration is strongly encouraged.
Irene Zahava is the director of Emma's Writing Center and is associated with the Durland Alternatives Library at Cornell University. She has edited a number of haiku journals and anthologies, including "frog/no frog," "Starfish," and "I Breathe Red," and has published two haiku collections of her own. Irene leads the "Writing a Life" workshop at Lifelong and writes haiku whenever the spirit moves her.
This workshop is made possible with grant support from the Community Arts Partnership.
